LINES OF FLIGHT: a screening of new queer porn. Bringing together the work of award-winning queer porn directors and performers, LINES OF FLIGHT will offer a glimpse of porn being made at the leading edges of culture. Each film presents a unique view of sexuality, sex, and gender, inviting viewers to consider sex in new ways, to experience desires that might be unfamiliar, to see things they have maybe never seen, and to expand their view of what is hot. The screening will include four scenes directed by Courtney Trouble, Shine Louise Houston, and James Darling, curated by Michael J. Morris. An open conversation will follow the screening, providing an opportunity for public dialogue about porn, sex, sexuality, gender, desire, pleasure, fantasy, power, bodies, or whatever else comes up. February 28, 6-8pm at Feverhead (1199 Goodale Blvd)
Free and open to the public, donations invited to help rent the space.

Wake Up Sangha - Meditation and Dharma Sharing

Mindfulness practice can be incorporated into all aspects of life. Coming together regularly as a community (sangha) also has great benefit.

"If you have a supportive sangha, it’s easy to nourish your bodhicitta, the seeds of enlightenment. If you don’t have anyone who understands you, who encourages you in the practice of the living dharma, your desire to practice may wither. Your sangha—family, friends, and copractitioners—is the soil, and you are the seed. No matter how vigorous the seed is, if the soil does not provide nourishment, your seed will die. A good sangha is crucial for the practice. Please find a good sangha or help create one." -TNH

Our Sangha meetings involve sitting meditation, walking meditation, a reading, and sharing from the heart.

Wake Up is an active global community of led by young mindfulness practitioners, aged 18-35, and inspired by the teachings of Zen teacher and peace activist Thich Nhat Hanh. We come together to practice awareness in order to take care of ourselves, nourish happiness, and contribute to building a healthier and a more compassionate society. All ages are welcome at our gatherings.

Sunday, February 8th, 3-6:00pm
Fuse Factory Workshop (Basic web design series): Design with CSS 3

Instructor: Paul Dehnbostel
Workshop fee: $35

Our second class in the series covers the basics of CSS 3, a powerful language used to create layout and design for web pages. Without CSS, the web would not be nearly as pretty! Best of all, CSS is easy to learn and was designed so that everyone – even non-programmers – can do it. No fancy programs are needed, just Notepad and a web browser. This workshop is designed to be a hands-on experience for beginners with some previous HTML experience (like our HTML 5 Fundamentals workshop). In addition to discussing what CSS is and how it works, we will cover topics such as font and color changes, and the box model. This workshop is BYOL (Bring Your Own Laptop).

Sunday, March 1st, 7:30-9:30pm
Trance Studies: Becoming Fish (II)

We take an experimental approach to trance studies - not a dogmatic one - so all are welcome take what they find valuable for themselves. The Cuyamungue, or "Oma," trance is a shamanic practice used to cultivate visions and a dream-like awareness. It is a syncretic technique developed by anthropologist and spiritual teacher, Felicitas D. Goodman, and continued by her daughter, Susan Josephson (among others). Goodman believed that she had discovered an ancient and universal way to allow entrance into an alternate reality and commune with the beings who dwell there. Guided by postures adapted from a variety of sources and driven by a rattle sounded at a particular tempo and rhythm, participants often have visions with personal significance.

For this session, we will pair two postures. The first will be the "singing shaman" for door opening. The second will be the the "fish trance," derived from representations of Aztec goddess Chalchihuitlique and evoking water, renewal, adapting to change.

*Instructions for participation: Please arrive on time, the door will be closed at 7:45 so that the session can begin without interruption. Fasting will enhance the experience, but is not required. For best results, do not eat at least 30 minutes prior to the session. Avoid alcohol throughout the day. Wear loose-fitting clothing and avoid wearing metal.

*Young adults / teens welcome.

*Susan is not expecting payment so this session is by donation. Feel free to support her visit and the maintenance of the studio space with a small contribution.
