ILLIO special events for January:

Saturday, January 10th, 3-6pm
HTML 5 Fundamentals

Fuse Factory workshop (Basic Web Design Series)
Instructor: Paul Dehnbostel
Workshop fee: $35

This class, which is the first in the series, introduces students to the basic elements of HyperText Markup Language 5 (HTML 5) as the basic code underlying website functionality. We will cover topics such as: basic layout with HTML, basic elements, linking web pages, and inserting images. We will also cover general document features such as headers, paragraphs, lists, and more. This workshop is BYOL (Bring Your Own Laptop).
To learn more about our web design series and reserve a spot in the workshop, please preregister at: http://thefusefactory.org/events/html_5_fundamental

Sunday, January 11th, 1-3:00pm
Wake Up Sangha - Meditation and Dharma Sharing

Our Wake Up Sangha (community) meetings involve sitting meditation, walking meditation, a reading, and sharing from the heart. This month we’ll remember the year gone, and set intentions for the New Year, with a simple candle lighting ceremony led by Clair W.

We usually sit on the floor, but chairs also available. No meditation experience required.

*Note: While we’ve limited our previous Sangha meeting to the younger demographic, meetings in the new year are open to all ages (kids too, as long as they're old enough to sit reasonably still). Young adults have particular needs and sometimes have difficulty finding peer community in mindfulness practice. Still, inclusiveness is paramount, so we've decided to invite everyone while keeping the group young-adult led (18-35).

Sunday, January 11th, 3-6pm
Basic Web Site Design with CSS3

Fuse Factory workshop (Basic Web Design Series)
Instructor: Paul Dehnbostel
Workshop fee: $35

Our second class in the series covers the basics of CSS 3, a powerful language used to create layout and design for web pages. Without CSS, the web would not be nearly as pretty! Best of all, CSS is easy to learn and was designed so that everyone – even non-programmers – can do it. No fancy programs are needed, just Notepad and a web browser. This workshop is designed to be a hands-on experience for beginners with some previous HTML experience (like our HTML 5 Fundamentals workshop). In addition to discussing what CSS is and how it works, we will cover topics such as font and color changes, and the box model. This workshop is BYOL (Bring Your Own Laptop).

To learn more about our web design series and reserve a spot in the workshop, please preregister at: http://thefusefactory.org/events/workshop_css_3/

Monday, January 19th, 1:00-3:00pm
Wake Up - Day of Service - MLK Day

This month, Wake Up Sangha will take advantage of the holiday to do a simple service activity. We’ll be making blankets with kits from My Very Own Blanket, an organization “Dedicated to helping children in foster care feel valued and comforted.” We’ll share some food and some mindfulness energy working with our hands to give an object of warmth to another, and warming ourselves in the process. Feel free to bring a snack and $15 for a blanket kit, or just come and lend a hand! (all ages, including kids)

"Becoming Amphibious" Daron Larson

"Becoming Amphibious: At Home in the Illusion of Permanence and the Reality of Impermanence" Humans are wired for stories. The narrative is our default mode. There is nothing wrong with living your life as the main character in a story, but there is something liberating about being able to feel at home in the direct experience of your life regardless of the circumstances. Discover how robust attentional fitness can empower us to see through the illusion of an unchanging self and to feel more at home in our lives both with and without it. $15

Daron Larson is a mindfulness teacher, information maven, and freelance contemplative. He is a student of meditation teacher, Shinzen Young, and leads classes and workshops or a regular basis in Columbus. Learn more about Daron here: http://www.athomeinyourlife.com
