Open Meditation : Hatha Yoga and Sitting

In continuation of an 'embodiment' theme from the January sit, this second-Sunday we will further body awareness with some Hatha Yoga before our silent meditation.

The Hatha Yoga will help prepare us for sitting in a comfortable way. Because of this we will do a shorter meditation. For these reasons, this Open Meditation will be ideal for new-comers and people intimidated by a longer sit. I'll give a short introduction to meditation if there is anyone present who feels they would benefit and other folks can chime in with their suggestions.

BRING A YOGA MAT if you can. We will have only a couple extra. (we have more cushions, but bring a pillow to sit on if you can)

Yoga instructor Sonia Buhrer Bowen will lead 25 min. of stretches and then we'll do 25 min of meditation. We will have a discussion before and after where everyone will be given time to share. In the end, we break up casually and linger with tea.

“It is only when the correct practice is followed for a long time, without interruptions and with a quality of positive attitude and eagerness, that it can succeed.”
― Patanjali, Yoga-Sutras I.14

Donations are welcome to cover the cost of the space but are not required.

Workshop celebrating Self-Discovery, Transformation, and Spiritual Growth #2

:: In the Spirit of serving the further cultivation of a conscious spiritual community in the Heart of Ohio ::

~ Facilitated by Ehren Cruz of Solpurpose
with support by Rae Rae Love Day of Kickin' It
and Heidi Kambitsch of OpenheartCreatures~

Many of us feel a calling to tap into our sacred nature, yet we are also seeking guidance; manners of practicing and integrating the profound revelations and transformational experiences we have had in our journey in healthy lasting ways. This workshop series will assist those who wish to dive deeper into spiritual exploration with helpful tools and a supportive community to share their discoveries with.

All paths are welcome. No prerequisites of any kind are needed. If you have ideas or suggestions for future workshop topics, we'd love to hear your thoughts. Please post a comment on this page or send an email to either of the email addresses listed below.

We are honored to walk with you on this journey and look onward with great joy in knowing that never again do we have to face these challenges of healing and growth alone, as we are of one human family. We believe the health and well-being of every single one of us ~ matters to ALL of us. So we welcome you with open hearts to the Embracing the Journey Monthly workshop series.

Please feel free to invite friends! All are welcome.

$7-$10 suggested donation

Trance Studies : Bird Diviner

Through ritual body posture and sound of a rattle, subconscious realms can be made visible, and latent powers can emerge. Susan's technique for calling the spirits is based on the work of her late mother, anthropologist and spiritual teacher, Felicitas D. Goodman. (Her work lives on in New Mexico at the Cuyamungue Institute <http://www.cuyamungueinstitute.com/> and in Germany at the Felicitas-Goodman Insitut <http://www.cuyamungue-institut.de/>, and in numerous books and articles.)
Susan Josephson is an artist, philosopher, and educator, currently residing in central Ohio.

As in the past, we will pair two postures. The first session will be the "singing shaman" to open the door. Then we’ll do the "hawk trance" a transformation and divining posture. Participants will be encouraged to hold in their mind a central question. We will use the freedom of the bird to feel our way forward in our situation.

We take an experimental approach to trance studies so openminded people of all word-views are welcome.

Young adults / teens welcome.

***Instructions for participation: Please arrive on time, the door will be closed at 7:15 so that the session can begin without interruption. Fasting will enhance the experience, but is not required. For best results, do not eat at least 30 minutes prior to the session, and keep away from alcohol. Wear loose-fitting clothing and avoid wearing metal. In this folk tradition, metals on the body, excepting gold and silver, are believed to interfere with the experience.

***Susan is not expecting payment so this session is by donation. Feel free to contribute to her visit and the maintenance of the studio space with a small contribution.
