Wake Up Sangha - Everything we need is already here

Dear friends,

Join us for our January Sangha meeting. There will be sitting meditation, walking meditation, a reading, and sharing from the heart.

"We all have the tendency to struggle in our bodies and in our minds. We believe that happiness is possible only in the future. The realization that we have already arrived, that we don't have to travel any further, that we are already here, can give us peace and joy. The conditions for our happiness are already sufficient. We only need to allow ourselves to be in the present moment, and we will be able to touch them. What are we looking for to be happy? Everything is already here. We do not need to put an object in front of us to run after, believing that until we get it, we cannot be happy. That object is always in the future, and we can never catch up to it. We are already in the Pure Land, the Kingdom of God. We are already a Buddha. We only need to wake up and realize we are already here." (Thich Nhat Hanh, from "Cultivating the Mind of Love")

Wake Up is an active global community of led by young mindfulness practitioners, aged 18-35, and inspired by the teachings of Zen teacher and peace activist Thich Nhat Hanh. We come together to practice awareness in order to take care of ourselves, nourish happiness, and contribute to building a healthier and a more compassionate society. All ages are welcome at our gatherings.

Full Moon Dance Party with Sacred Shimmy Bellydance

January's Full Moon is known at the Wolf Moon in honor of the hungry beasts who howled outside the villages at this deep point of Winter. Join us for a dancing and drumming celebration to shake off the stiffness of the season and reconnect with your inner fire.
Dancers, musicians, and movement artists are invited to perform, and audience members and onlookers are invited to applaud, ooh, and aah to your hearts' content.
Our live musicians will be available to make spontaneous magic for those who would like accompaniment, and recorded music is also welcome if that's what moves you best. This supportive halfa-style environment is suitable for dancers of all levels from beginner to experienced. Please contact me if you would like a spot in the show.

Open dancing will also be offered for those who might not like to perform but still want to make an offering to the moon.

Doors at 7:30 PM. Show beings promptly at 8:00 PM.
Admission: $5. All attendees are required to pay admission, regardless of participation in the evening's performance.

Wednesdays, 6:30-7:30pm
Self Defense Workshop with Jose Reyes

It's not to late to get yourself (or a loved one) a gift that will truly keep on giving and start your new years resolution at the same time! This January will will begin a three month self defense workshop. Using an easy to learn and retain self defense system. Over the next few month we will not only give you the the tools to defend yourself if ever put in a situation where need be. We will also give you the confidence to properly use these tools in an unfortunate situation where self-defense applications would be needed. This class will work with de-escalation and basic self defense for the most common sort of attacks. We will be combining fitness and self-awareness, in a fun and safe environment. You will learn how to present yourself as neither a victim or a threat, you will learn positioning and displacement techniques (you don't have to be big and "strong" to defend yourself), you'll even get to learn some cool techniques from the German special forces. While hopefully we'll never be in need of drastic self-defense, we can at least have the proper tools to deal with some situations.

Drop ins $20.00

One month $75.00 (saves up to $25)

Complete three month program $200.00 (Saves up to $60)

See you Wednesday!
